WSŁUCHAJ SIĘ W ŚWIAT / LISTEN TO THE WORLD

Once again during ETHNO PORT, we will try to talk about the world we live in, its problems and cultural diversity. In an attempt to take a break from the information about the atrocities of the war taking place across the eastern border, we will talk about the phenomenon of the Hutsul tradition practised in the mountainous part of south-western Ukraine. The meeting on Sunday, in turn, will focus on the unique phenomenon of the Domari minority living in Egypt. Extremely interesting documentary films will be played on both meetings.

HUTSULSHCHYNA – a meeting combined with a film screening

11.06 g. 13,  Audiovisual Hall, tickets: 10 zł (free to festival pass holders)
,
live Polish Sign Language interpretation will be available
TICKETS
The unique Hutsul culture of south-western Ukraine will be discussed by Maciej Rychły and the author of documentary films presented during the meeting, Krzysztof Krzyżanowski.

Krzysztof Krzyżanowski – a historian by profession, journalist, reporter and a man of the mountains. Fascinated by Hutsulshchyna – the sense of pride, freedom and liberty of its inhabitants – he made a number of films about this extraordinary region of Ukraine. Some of them will be screened during the meeting on Saturday.

Maciej Rychły – a psychologist by profession, multi-instrumentalist, composer, cultural anthropologist, writer. Co-founder and leader of the legendary Jorgi Quartet (Kwartet Jorgi). In the years 1989-2004, he was associated with the "Gardzienice" Centre for Theatre Practices. He cooperates with numerous theatres and universities and creates film music. In recent years, he has composed music and participated in the productions of Song of the Goat Theatre in Wrocław, such as "Songs of Lears", "Cherry Orchard" and "Return of The Voice".
The meeting about Hutsulshchyna will be accompanied by an exhibition of works by Halyna Dudar, a Lviv-based artist whose work is clearly inspired by the material culture of the Eastern and Southern Carpathians.

SONGS OF THE INVISIBLE DOMARI COMMUNITY
12.06 g. 13, Audiovisual Hall, tickets: 10 zł (free to festival pass holders)
TICKETS
A meeting with musicians and a lecture about the musical cultures of Egypt recorded as part of the JuJu Sounds project. The outstanding vocalist Rashida Sayed and the members of her band will be interviewed by Łukasz Komła – editor of Nowamuzyka.pl.
The Domari are related to the Romani people living in Europe. Both peoples came from around present-day Rajasthan and are linked by their mode of dress, preferred activities and nomadic lifestyle. Regardless of location, the Romani and Domari people have been and continue to be stigmatised and excluded from society in various ways. They usually fit into the category of the exotic "other," which was dangerous, repulsive and yet fascinating at the same time.

Rashida Sayed is an artist from outside the mainstream of world music, living in one of the Nile Delta towns where the spotlight of the stage does not reach. A few years ago Luka Kumor, who runs the JuJu Sounds record label, became fascinated by her voice. To escape the hustle and bustle of the Egyptian street, the unique recordings of the artist were made in the bedroom of one of the houses of the musicians accompanying her.

Łukasz Komła – a historian by profession, for over 10 years the editor of Nowamuzyka.pl. He searches for innovative sound forms from various parts of the world. He also wrote about Polish music for "Gazeta Magnetofonowa", on his blog "Płyty (nie)słuchane" and in the magazines "LAIF" and "M/I Kwartalnik Muzyczny", "Przekrój", "Dwutygodnik", "Polyphonia" and "Proanima.pl". Music curator of the Gdańsk New Music Days festival and the Warsaw AfryKamera festival.

DESIGN A MANDALA WITH US! - do-it-yourself family workshop with Majsterki.pl (10+)
11.06, 1pm, Rehearsal Room, tickets: 10 zł/child, free admission for an accompanying adult
tickets
Mandala is not only one of the most popular decorative patterns in the world but, above all, it is a symbol of perfection and harmony with centuries of tradition. Tibetan monks still use mandalas for meditation. Since ancient times, as part of a ritual, they have destroyed the fabulously colorful patterns made of sand. Nothing will be destroyed during our workshops, on the contrary, you will take your handmade mandalas home with you!
During the 3-hour workshops, you will learn about the history of this Buddhist symbol, its modern applications and you will also create your own mandala. We will paint, burn or engrave selected patterns using Dremel Multi-Tool. Couples consisting of a child (10+) and an adult are invited to the workshops. Working on mandalas requires precision and the use of power tools, which younger do-it-yourself enthusiasts might not be able to handle. Adults with no children are also welcome.

Creating mandalas is a great way to relax, develop imagination and ability to focus.

Instructors:
Barbara Sowa - co-founder of Majsterki, which has been promoting movements such as DIY, upcycling and eco-design for over 8 years. Majsterki proves that anyone can do things themselves, regardless of age, gender or level of education. In times when everything can be bought, you can learn how to create something unique yourself, save money and, at the same time, give old objects a second life.
Kasia Bilińska - the female element of the Poznań-based duo MAKAZOMA, fascinated with furniture restoration, painting and design.

WHAT DOES PEACE SMELL LIKE?  - workshop led by Joanna Roszak (9+)
12.06, 12pm, Castle Courtyard, tickets: 10 zł/child, free admission for an accompanying adult (adult supervision not required)
tickets
What does peace smell like? And what does it look like? How do you create it?  How to decorate it?
Working with words and the body, we will reflect on PEACE (S-POKÓJ - a room that represents peace). We will also transfer our thoughts and emotions onto the wall of the room/PEACE. In this way, we will pass them on to other festival-goers. Look out for a wall in the courtyard of the Castle during Sunday concerts.
Joanna Roszak, the workshop instructor, has been promoting the idea of peace, openness and respect through her creative and educational work for years. She is inspired by the nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize, Elise Boulding. The sociologist, born in Sweden in 1920, emphasised the importance of promoting interpersonal peace, openness and recognition of differences not only as potential sources of conflict but also as a starting point for progress. According to Boulding, peace is a hallmark of a civilised society and children, the delicate tissue of the human species, an essential link to long-term social change.  The researcher argued that a respectful relationship with the planet, its water, soil and air will never be established unless "...the youngest children are taught about peace at their homes, in the yards, in the streets and at schools. We need people who know how to resolve conflicts peacefully, from their earliest memories".
During the workshops, we will acquire one of such memories.

Joanna Roszak - professor at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a literature expert, a teacher of the Polish language in one of the schools in Poznań. A promoter of peace education. She has received the Roman Czernecki Award for her publications on education, a special mention as part of the Irena Sendlerowa Prize and a second-level prize awarded by the Director of the Centre for Arts Education for "special contribution to artistic education of children and teenagers". A poet (e.g. Tego dnia, Przyszli niedokonani, Ploso). She has recently published the following books: Miejsce i imię.  Poeci niemieckojęzyczni żydowskiego pochodzenia (The place and the name. German-language poets of Jewish descent) (2014), Słyszysz synagoga. Wychodząc spod poznańskiej synagogi przy Wronieckiej (Can you hear that? Leaving the synagogue on Wroniecka Street in Poznań) (2015) and Żuraw z origami. Opowieść o Józefie Rotblacie (Origami crane. A story about Józef Rotblat) (2019).
